Concrete Overlay - Repairing concrete with concrete overlays

Repair your Damaged or Drab Concrete Floor with Concrete Overlay

A concrete overlay is a process of installing an overlay over concrete whose surface is damaged. A concrete overlay conceals cracks, flaws and can even transform a dull and drab concrete floor into something eye-catching. There are different types of concrete overlays with quite a selection of fancy styles available in the market.

What is Concrete Overlay Composed of?

In the past, in order to upgrade the appearance of a concrete floor, a cement-based overlay was installed. Today, a large number of concrete overlays are made of a mixture composed of polymer resins, and a combination of cement, sand and other substances that may extend its durability or enhance its value. Layers of these overlays may be installed. It is up to the homeowner and the designer to decide how thick they would want the concrete overlays to be.

Concrete Overlays: A Cheaper and Quicker Alternative

If you are thinking of fixing or changing a concrete slab or a damaged section of your floor, it may be extremely inconvenient and may result to more damage. It may turn out to be costly and a difficult task to be faced with. A cheaper and easier way is through concrete overlay. It will not only change the look of your floor, but it will enhance the look of your whole house at a cheaper rate, in a lesser amount of time. To further improve its look, you may place designs, add texture or styles in different colors.

Embellish Your Floor with Decorative Concrete Overlays

There are different types of concrete overlays depending on your preference. Stamp-able concrete overlays bring with it the advantages of stamped concrete and they are much faster to install. Another type of concrete overlays are micro toppings and skim coats, which are nearly the same as decorative toppings. They are used to adorn the floor with color and the layers of overlay are placed thinly. For spray-down systems, concrete is sprayed using an air-powered gun. A trowel is used to even-out the concrete. To make beautiful floor designs, stencils or paper are utilized. A self-leveling overlay is a process of pouring concrete on top and leaving it until it settles. Embellishments may be integrated or the overlay may be placed before positioning tiles, carpets or other types of coverings on the floor.
