Different Activities, Different Concrete Tools
Concrete can be poured into concrete forms or it can be pre-cast concrete
blocks. Either way you will need equipment in order to move concrete to the
construction site. Equipment including rakes, chutes, concrete mixers and
wheelbarrows will be needed. The concrete has to be placed depending on the type
of material used. Once you’ve decided where to place concrete, spread it out to
get it ready for finishing. Shovels are great concrete tools for almost all
aspects of spreading concrete. Spreaders are a great option as well since they
can pull and push the concrete to make it even on the surface. Screeding the
concrete is very important. Straightedges are a common choice for this task.
They help to remove the extra concrete and levels up the surface. Common such
tools for this are made of wood or magnesium and can be vibratory, oscillating
rotary types of mechanical tools.
Choosing Concrete Tools to Finish the Concrete
To achieve the necessary results, specific concrete tools are needed when
finishing concrete. Tampers are worked by pushing down the coarse aggregates in
the concrete. Then darbying or bull floating is done to make sure that no voids
have been left behind from screeding. Hand held edgers and walking edgers are
needed to give the finishing touches to the concrete and to offer protection
from chipping. Using groovers ensures that the concrete is joined together and
helps to minimize the cracks and gaps that can develop in concrete over later
stages. Hand floats are used next to achieve a flat surface. Trowels are then
used to ensure that the concrete produces a solid and dense surface.
